UPDATE 2025
Doctor Miguel Toribio Mateas worked as part of the project team at The Sourdough School from July 2020 to June 2021, contributing his expertise to the gut analysis feedback to participants for our clinical case studies within the BALM dietary intervention studies.
Dr Miguel Toribio-Mateas is a clinical neuroscientist, applied microbiologist, and nutrition researcher with over two decades of experience across healthcare, science, and technology. His work centres on the microbiota–gut–brain axis, exploring how food and lifestyle interventions influence cognition, mood, and behaviour through the gut–brain connection. He is currently leading research on the intersections between nutrition and ADHD as part of a multidisciplinary team, with published outputs in BMC Feasibility Studies and BMJ Open.
Miguel’s expertise spans from guiding pilot and feasibility studies to shaping clinical research protocols that lay the groundwork for larger-scale trials. His transdisciplinary background enriches his academic roles: he is an Honorary Research Fellow at Cardiff University’s School of Psychology, a Third-Sector Research Fellow at SPARK—Cardiff’s internationally leading social science research park—and Senior Lecturer in Nutrition, Health, and Wellbeing at the University of West London.
