Please Click on the Title Above to Play the Video

Before You Begin Your Sourdough Starter

Before you create your starter, it's crucial to understand the fundamentals. Think of it like preparing for a new baby—you’d want to know how to care for it before it arrives! This section provides essential information you need to know before starting your sourdough journey.

What You'll Learn:

  • Understanding Your Starter: Before diving into the process, take the time to watch, read, and absorb this section. This foundational knowledge will set you up for success.
  • Creating Your Starter: Learn the step-by-step process and how to determine when your starter is ready to use.
  • Troubleshooting: What to do if you think your starter isn’t thriving, including recognising signs of a healthy starter and how to revive it if necessary.
  • Starter Discard: Explore what to do with discard, ensuring nothing goes to waste.
  • Sweet Starter Explanation: Understand the differences and benefits of a sweet starter.

Recommendation:

Only after thoroughly engaging with these lessons should you proceed to make your starter. Once your starter is established, feel free to experiment and adjust. We also have a dedicated section on various formulas, which we recommend exploring once you have a routine and have established a wholegrain starter—this is the best way to capture wild yeast and bacteria.

Estimated total time: 1 hour 50 mins.
