The Sourdough School

BALM – Proven as one of the healthiest approaches to bread in the world.

Based in the walled gardens of Dr. Vanessa Kimbell's beautiful Victorian home in rural Northamptonshire, UK, we tutor individuals and train bakers and healthcare professionals in Baking as Lifestyle Medicine (BALM). Personalising bread to your lifestyle, gut microbiome, and unique genetics for optimal health—tailoring fermentation, fibre, and diversity so that your daily bread becomes the foundation of your health.

Recipe Development & Testing

I am always developing and making new recipes. Despite having many years of experience writing and teaching, I sometimes make assumptions and inevitably forget to include information or, conversely, add too much detail, which can be equally confusing.

To make sure that the recipes work, you will find in this section recipes that need to be tested first. In doing so, you help everyone, and I can confidently share them. Your help and feedback on this makes such a difference, and I very much appreciate it. If, for any reason, you get stuck partway through a bake, please WhatsApp me, and I will respond. +44(0) 7813308301

Here is the link to the recipe development and testing page, and here is the recipe testing feedback form.

Please ONLY give feedback via the form, as I lose and forget any other information as it goes outside the editing system.

A wooden bowl filled with blueberries sits on a rustic wooden surface. A few blueberries have spilled out of the bowl and lie on the table next to it. The blueberries are dark and plump, contrasting with the textured, weathered wood of the table. The image has a cozy, natural feel with a focus on the fresh berries.
