Location: United Kingdom
Profession: Trainee Doctor
I am a qualified doctor and GP trainee, with a passion for lifestyle medicine. I graduated from Birmingham Medical School in 2019, and have since been working across Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire as a junior doctor. Throughout university, and my first few years in the field, I have become increasingly passionate about lifestyle medicine, and increasingly eager to educate others about the monumentally positive impact even small changes in lifestyle can have on both mental and physical health. As a healthcare professional, I feel it is my duty to practice what I preach; when not working, I can most likely be found in the kitchen - or on my yoga mat!
There is a quote I love, embedded in the Chandogya Upanishad, which says:
'The essence of all beings is Earth
The essence of the Earth is Water
The essence of Water is Plants
The essence of Plants is People…'
Whilst often overlooked, I strongly feel it is this interconnection between all living things which indisputably impacts our collective approach to food, and has the power to revolutionise our future diets if only we can continue to acknowledge and understand to a greater extent.
How I use BALM Protocol
I really hope that I will be able to apply the knowledge I learn as I advance through this course throughout my GP training and onwards into my professional life. The course provides a solid knowledge base for me to really feel confident to empower my patients to improve their health, one step at a time - starting with bread! I am hoping to continue to develop a portfolio career with special interest in Lifestyle Medicine, where I can do my bit to tackle the ever-growing burden of preventable chronic disease. I also hope to be able to share my newfound knowledge with colleagues, for them to also be able to inspire their patients, through my various roles as an Ambassador for the British Holistic Medical Association, and a Junior Doctor Lead for Nutritank. I am determined to bring preventative medicine and holistic practice to the centre of our current medical model, and hope to be able to help patients understand how even small lifestyle changes can have a massive impact on their health. I feel incredibly strongly that food is medicine, and I am honoured to be a part of this incredible baking army.
