About
I live in Scarborough on the North Yorkshire east coast. I used to work as a nurse employed by Marie Curie Care in a Hospice at Home service, from a local hospic,e till the service changed. I now work as a complementary therapist.
I love to eat bread when it is fresh and still warm. I try to eat symbiotically.
I bake mainly for myself but also give to friends, family and neighbours.
My Work
I live in the old town part of Scarborough and my therapy space is only a few yards away in the old coastguard station. I am not a serious baker but I enjoy it and try to bake weekly. I am not involved in official teaching, however, people are interested and ask me about it. I have promised to share my starter with two people and show them how to maintain this. I also share my Sourdough books if someone is interested.
Passionate about Baking as Lifestyle Medicine
I have always had an interest in health and its nice to focus on a pro active aspect of healthcare. I also enjoy the creative process of baking.
My Community
I don't have a community who I am responsible for, however, I am aware of the inequalities in health and the access and availability of healthy food for all. Making good bread and sharing it gives people a taste of good food and hopefully inspires people to enjoy eating healthy food. I have had a couple of friends who were strugling with their mental health and they felt uplifted by the gift of a loaf of bread.
Both in my work and in my social circle, people are interested in the bread course when I speak about it and show an interest.
How I use BALM Protocol
I will carry on baking for myself and the people I know. I will keep learning and practising. If anyone wants to know more, I will support them.
