About
My favorite way to eat bread is a homemade sourdough loaf right out of the oven to be shared with family and/or friends with a meal. Breaking bread together is a tradition in our family and now that I'm baking sourdough it provides an even stronger connection. I bake for family and friends and neighbors and people that work at the different places I frequent regularly.
My Work
I live in New York City and spend several month during the summer on Nantucket. I bake 2-3 times a week, experimenting with different flours and different types of loaves. I have been baking since Covid and my love for sourdough baking has grown exponentially and I continue to love the practice as time goes by. Over the years I have raised money for Nantucket cottage hospital giving away breads to friends and taking any donation they want to make. I donate all of those proceeds to the hospital.
Passionate about Baking as Lifestyle Medicine
I am very interested in maintaining a healthy lifestyle through exercise, cooking and surrounding myself with people that have positive energy. I find baking to be a calming transformative practice that allows me to learn and gift at the same time. I love to gift my breads and giving away something that is healthy is a treasure on so may levels. I have always lived trying to eat foods that have a low glycemic index so sourdough is the perfect food.
My Community
Sourdough is most healthy type of bread because it has a low gylcemic index and breaks downs slowly. It is this type of food that is best for nutrition, longevity and healthy for the gut microbiome. I preach that to all the people I give my bread.
How I use BALM Protocol
I know I have so much to learn and it will be a privilege to understand more about the diversity of flours, how sourdough helps to regulate gut health and other useful techniques that will help my baking skills. I want to take more risks with my baking and I'm hoping to learn more so that I can do that in my own home.
