About
Anyway! I love bread, especially the crusts with way too much butter, they were named butter baths when we were little. My kids share the same love of butter at mayonnaise and actually eat it with a spoon, they only like the middle of the bread though and not the crust. I have tried multiple times to make sourdough, from making my own starter and with using starters. I am not fabulous at it yet but it was edible each time so that's a start. I bake for us as a family we have four girls ( 2 with my husband 2 that are just his) they are 20,14,6, and nearly 4. Making meals that keep everyone happy and a breakfast that teenagers actually eat is some what of a challenge but I am definitely improving.
My Work
We are based in Waddington Lancashire and we recently bought our home with 40 acres. We are slowly growing our small holding, at present we have 4 Managlitsa pigs, 6 Maran chickens, 1 Orpington cockerel, 12 Herdwick sheep, our first swarm of bees came this weekend and in the next 8 weeks we are getting 7 northern dairy shorthorns which are a dual purpose breed for meat and dairy which we intend to milk also for our own dairy produce (homemade butter for me). We have a 3 bedroom holiday cottage that we have just renovated and intend to host retreats. I am a health coach as well as an nlp practitioner, reiki master and yoga a breathwork instructor. My husband is a psychotherapist and together we set up and ran a mental health charity and wellbeing centre that we closed 2 years ago with the sale of our wealth management business (we are both financial advisors too) we wanted a slower life and more time in nature and with our children and we intend to host retreats from our farm in the future. we are passionate about regenerating our land with natural practises and the animals we keep very much have an active part in that. Our investment is in improving the soil health first to improve the quality of our produce. In nourishing the land it will nourish us also.
Passionate about Baking as Lifestyle Medicine
I love all aspects of cooking and creating. When i was in my late teens i was diagnosed as a coeliac (which i am not and have cured my symptoms) however at the time i started to bake with a variety of other gluten free ingredients, ground almonds, mash potatoes etc. I actually went to set up a small online shop called celia's as in coeliacs but life got in the way. At the time i worked at a gym and everyone loved my gluten free chocolate brownies and lemon cake. I diverted off and headed off down a career in interior design and sales only to come back to the well being space after a particularly abusive relationship. I have always believed 'there is a cure in the woods for everything' and we are often so disconnected from our food. Energy is everything and the person making your food has a lot of involvement in that. I want to create food that I have enjoyed growing and creating to share more love energy and obviously nutrition to my family. Obviously that sounds idyllic so i assume there will be a few swear words and crazy moments in the midst of all this but largely its an opportunity to come together as a family and have a combine effort for a wholesome outcome.
My Community
I believe in food first, going back to basics, learning the tweaks that add up to huge changes. When people are engaged with their food and start to nourish themselves with food rather than processing food because they need to or have to the process within the body i believe completely changes because of the energetic value it holds as well as the nutritional value.
How I use BALM Protocol
I would like to be able to teach others to make bread when they come on retreats at our farm. May be you could guest host our first! I want to pass the knowledge on to schools and school children. Understanding that the quality of an ingredient can vary vastly and that we can make many small changed to improve our food and our health i think is a message that will be greatly received and have a huge impact.
