About
Toasted for breakfast with homemade beans, avocado, egg and mushrooms, followed by some toast with marmalade OR on occasion spread with clotted cream and jam. I bake for family, friends and to give as thank you gifts.
My Work
I am based in my home kitchen here in Torbay. For the past year I have baked bread once or twice a week (50:50 10 minute tins,always Doves white, combined with Hodmedods spelt/wholemeal/botanical blends) mostly for family, along with discard recipes - pancakes, waffles, scones, cake and lots of pasta. I also regularly try out new recipes from the club and books, rosti, pan d'mie, pastry, cultured cream and butter, bread and butter pudding, foccacia and tea loaf.
Passionate about Baking as Lifestyle Medicine
I started to became passionate about health and wellbeing about ten years ago. After struggling with candida for a few years and some random pains in my limbs I went along to a Functional Medicine Practitioner and became aware of all things gut related and cleaned up my act. My husband has rheumatoid arthritis which is managed by some pretty nasty drugs so it is important to me that we eat as well as possible, also supplementing where necessary.
My Community
With the art of fermentation and diet being proven to improve the gut microbiome and that being where most of our immunity lies, it is crucial that everyone is educated in how to optimise their health where possible -whether they choose to do so or not.
Within my family we currently have two cancer patients and being able to support those loved ones in their fight, by providing them and all those around them with the best quality, most nourishing food possible, helps them not only with their physical wellbeing but also hopefully their mental capacity to deal with the day to day.
How I use BALM Protocol
I would like to think that at some point in the future I may be able to help educate my community in the benefits of real sourdough and potentially teach them how to incorporate baking bread into their lives for all round well-being.
